What is the workshop about? 

Uncertainties, crises and opportunities are current and long term issues – both in their impact and in possible causes. These issues constitute complex and multi-dimensional problems, the magnitude of which have continued to outpace global efforts (think for example about global epidemics, possible climate change impacts, extremism/terrorism, ageing populations, as well as a range of unexpected but high-impact events).

An uncoordinated yet integrated approach offers major difficulties for existing programmes and organisations remain uncoordinated. The risks can be pre-empted and challenged by learning hot to use scenarios and working with scenarists. Taking the long-term view on the impacts of specific uncertainties and policy decisions through active engagement with key stakeholders will be critical to ensure a dialogue on the political, social and economic basis – a necessity for any modern business or organisation. Understanding the use of scenarios from a range of sectors, enables a closer appreciation of how futures thinking can assist strategy, planning and preparedness thanks to the competitive edge provided by scenarios.

This workshops aims to provide an induction to understanding and using scenarios, taught by experienced practitioners and facilitated through the use of interactive sessions.
